I would like to share another way, a sort of short cut to help you delete a song or songs or a playlist from your iPhone. There are several ways to do this and I’ll be referring to the 3G for most details however it should be similar on the new GS and maybe earlier iPhones depending on the software loaded but we’ll be giving instructions using the iPhone 3G.
As you most likely know by now as you have made an attempt to get rid of a song or all your music on your iPhone that you can’t do it without connecting to your computers iTunes. This may be a way of protecting your music so it can’t be accidentally erased. Sounds good to me, protection.
So you must next find your cable that links your iPhone to your computer and hook it up. Once that is done you should see iTunes open up or you may have to click on the software to open, depending on your preference setting. Once iTunes opens you should look at the full menu on the left with the categories and what’s in them underneath. The main one at the top should be LIBRARY, then STORE beneath that and then the one you need is DEVICES. Click on the iPhone logo which also has a little iPhone icon as well as showing a plug which means you are connected. Under this Devices you’ll see music, movies, TV shows, Ringtones, and then your music playlists. Leaving the iPhone icon highlighted or selected, look at the top of the window and you’ll see Summary and a whole bunch of folder type categories like Info, Applications, Ringtones, Music ect. Select Summary and you should get the window with a pic of iPhone at top with the Version and then Options under that. There should be a check box next to Manually manage music and videos and you need to check that box and then click apply to save at lower bottom of page.
Now right below your iPhone icon in the left hand column under Devices again select the Music. Now you should see all the songs on your iPhone to the right with check boxes next to each song. You can just select one song or a bunch of songs randomly, while holding down the Apple key to select the songs you want to delete and then hit the delete key of your keyboard. You can also use the shift key to select a whole group in a row and then also press the delete key on your keyboard to remove these songs. This will erase the songs on your iPhone and as it does your iPhone will light up till it finishes the task. You can also select the playlist from under Music in Devices section and get rid of the entire playlist and add another by choosing the autofill at bottom of page.
There are other ways to remove music and they are all related to this chain of events. By leaving the Manually manage music and videos selected on your summary page this allows you to easily edit your music manually without editing your playlist directly.
